Rainn Wilson changes his Twitter name — sort of — for climate change ‘stunt’
The man many credit with launching the #ClimateGate Twitter hashtag, Rainn Wilson, has changed his handle from @RainnWilson on Twitter to @climate.
In a statement on Twitter, he said that the reason for his change was to “honor the activists who are using this hashtag — from a true hero, to a voice for truth, and an inspiration to us all.”
He also noted that the hashtag was recently chosen as one of the 100 greatest global movements of our time by Guardian UK.
#ClimateGate is the hashtag that is changing all of our lives. It is a global movement of social change demanding an end to climate change. It’s about people from all walks of life speaking out, in the face of governments, banks, big corporations and the media. However, Wilson made the change over the weekend, but he said it was to honor the activists who were using the hashtag.
“I also wanted to use this moment, to honor the activists who are using this hashtag – from a true hero to a voice for truth and an inspiration to the world. I’m so proud of the way the community has responded to their call, which has inspired countless activists all over the world. #ClimateChange is already shaping our world, it’s people who are making the differences and changing it for the better,” Wilson tweeted.
