The Bob Dylan Book Is Signed by a Hoaxer

Handle with care: Publisher apologizes for fake autograph in Bob Dylan’s $600 book

Lyrics to songs like “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” and the title track of Bob Dylan’s latest album have been floating around the Internet for years. Some purporting to be genuine. Others just being lame.

So far, no one has been able to prove this, except for an editor from the United Kingdom who tracked down the autograph holder for a Bob Dylan book, and that man didn’t know it was a fake.

This is a whole new level of weird!

An autographed book about Bob Dylan for $600, signed to the author by the artist, is on its way to the author’s publisher.

The publisher admits in a release that it has found its autograph holder for the book — and the man wasn’t expecting the signing.

In the release, the publisher said:

“What we are about to reveal is a real surprise — our autograph holder for the Bob Dylan book has been fooled by a hoaxer who has since been arrested and convicted of forging an autograph (a crime that can be punished by up to five years in jail and a $10,000 fine). The autograph holder for the book has already expressed his desire to be refunded, as this is the result of his bad judgment. We, however, feel that the person who forged and signed the wrong autograph (that of the author of the book) is more than a little embarrassed by his actions.

“Now it’s up to you to decide: Should Bob Dylan’s book and any autographs sold with it be refunded? Or should the autograph holder’s guilty plea go to his or other’s head and they do the right thing to make things right? We hope you will take the time to decide, but if you do decide to make a donation to the Bob Dylan Legal Defense Fund, you’ll get your money back.”
